Chapter Four
Christmas music was playing loud when she came down the next morning. A nice soft rock mix, which made her smile and suited that feeling alive mood. The fireplace mantle had cinnamon apple candles flickering in glass bulb holders and the floor had been mopped.
She tossed the coat she bummed on the sofa, having donned a green sweater and jeans, her socks and boots. She'd applied some light makeup, and spritzed on perfume. As she walked into the kitchen, Noble looked up and asked if she wanted him to turn the music down.
She shook her head no and sat down at the short bar to have coffee and bagels. He was eating them too, looking out the window, drinking his coffee.
Lexy found herself humming the song, surprised that after tossing and turning, grumbling at her body, that she could feel so invigorated. Half of that was likely just saying it. Hey Noble, I think you're hot. Hadn't been exactly like that, but there it was. After initially kicking herself in the ass for saying it, she'd laid there in bed realizing it was better said, since they were both feeling awkward at the time.
It certainly helped that he was attracted to her too.
Finished eating, she saw him heading for the back door and then picking up his boots and socks he'd laid over them. In the living room, he put them on and whistled for Snow. After the dog arrived, he turned the music down a bit and told her, “I'll meet you out back. We'll take him with us, but I'm going to let him run a bit."
"Okay.” She put on her coat after they left, sliding on her gloves. Noble wore darker jeans, a thermal undershirt in a dark red, with an unsnapped denim shirt over that. When she met him out back, he had on a waist length coat of denim and flannel.
She chuckled, watching the dog romp and run in the snow. Noble glanced at her, having been laughing at Snow's antics too. “He's loving this. We'll take that trail."
She moved up to walk beside him, into the woods behind the house. Snow ran ahead, and the lane was large enough for four wheelers, which he must have ridden through it after the first heavy snow. It was still deep in places, but she enjoyed looking at the blue sky and pines, their arms brushing as they both had their hands in their pockets.
"It's so stunning here.” She stopped a moment, looking around. “So vibrant and fresh. It gives you a feeling of peace, doesn't it?"
"Yeah, any season.” He leaned his head back looking at the sky. “No snow today looks like."
"Um.” She nodded and they walked more.
A bit down the trail she picked up a branch. Since Snow ran to her barking, Lexy broke it, and threw a piece, watching him dash off to fetch it. Her laughter rang out as she played with him, tossing it, then running a bit and wrestling with him for the stick in the deep snow.
